NESA Ensemble Wins Bronze at New England Show Choir Showdown

Last Weekend, a new chapter was written in NESA’s history books as we introduced our first-ever show choir ensemble, Sixth Sense. Since auditions in September, the group has rehearsed weekly to learn complex choreography, hold difficult vocal lines with often only one voice on a part, and develop a stage presence to compete against teams of up to 60 students.

After months of preparation, Sixth Sense launched their competitive season at the crack of dawn last weekend to travel to the New England Show Choir Showdown in Andover, Massachusetts. Upon arrival at the J. Everett Collins Center for the Performing Arts, they were greeted by the bustling energy of fellow competitors and the impressive sight of the auditorium, with its capacity to seat over 1200 spectators. The sprawling auditorium buzzed with activity as costume racks flew in and 18-wheeler trucks unloaded equipment.

It was a scene of grandeur and spectacle, one that could have easily overwhelmed a smaller group. But Sixth Sense was not deterred. Their performance, a captivating medley from 'The Greatest Showman,' was a testament to their hard work and dedication. And when the final notes faded into the air, the judges made their decision: Sixth Sense claimed Bronze in their division and earned the title of Best Vocalist for Elizabeth Chambers!

As they returned home to the Upper Valley, Sixth Sense carried with them not only accolades but also memories of a journey filled with growth, friendship, and the unwavering support of the NESA community. Their success serves as a testament to our school's commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for students to pursue their artistic ambition in a supportive environment.

Show Choir is one of the many educational opportunities NESA provides for students to grow and develop their talents with top notch artistic educators. As we open our doors to our inaugural high school class of 2024, Upper Valley youth will have opportunities to enroll in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) courses, performing arts based classes, Fine Art opportunities and much more. Sixth Sense is led by Director Jennifer Chambers and Choreographer and Artistic Director Denise Frawley, and accompanied by pianist Kevin David Thomas, percussionist Norman McMullen, and student cellist Lucia Lotterhand.
